FOCUSED ON RURAL

A.S.L.E.E.P. Initiative was founded with rural and remote communities in Saskatchewan in mind. In a province of 1 million people, about half of our population lives in small communities including small cities (<30,000 people), towns (<5,000 people), villages (<500), and family farms. This creates unique challenges for rural schools. Financially and geographically, relocating an entire classroom of students to a centre with laboratory facilities is not often feasible. Laboratory equipment and other science education resources are expensive, and teachers are often left to fund science experiences out of their own pockets. At A.S.L.E.E.P., we support educational equity - we strongly believe that science experiences shouldn't require access to city-based facilities to be a reality.
